Block and Inline Math Widgets

At a glance

Good for: showing formulas, equations, or math notation directly in your Lazuli course.

Learner experience: learners see clean, formatted math expressions in context, whether inline or in a dedicated block.

You design: choose between inline or block math widgets, type or edit LaTeX notation, and preview how it displays in your activity.

Here is a link to a database of LaTeX notation.

Prerequisites

  • Access to a course

  • Available on all plans

Step-by-step

  1. Add a math widget

    • Type / in your editor.

    • Begin typing block math or inline math.

    • Select the widget from the menu.

  2. Edit the math string

    • Click inside the widget to open the input box.

    • Type your notation using LaTeX syntax.

    • Example: to insert the Greek letter alpha, type \alpha.

  3. Preview your equation

    • Click OK or press Enter to apply.

    • The equation will render automatically.

  4. Use math notation
    You can include:

    • Greek letters

    • Relation and binary operators

    • Set and logic symbols

    • Geometry and trigonometric functions

    • Delimiters and numeric expressions
      Example: 10^{2} × 38 = 3800

Troubleshooting

  • Output looks incorrect: Check for missing or extra backslashes.

  • Equation does not render: Ensure you selected the correct widget (inline or block).

  • Symbols missing: Review your LaTeX syntax or consult the linked notation reference.

  • LaTeX input box not appearing: Confirm that you have pop-ups enabled in your browser.
